In this article, we’ll provide an overview of how these machines work so you can more easily spot when something isn’t functioning properly.
First, three stage compressors use pistons to force air into a chamber, compressing it. A single piston can’t deliver very much pressurized air on its own, but when combined with other pistons working together, the whole mechanism becomes much more efficient and effective at the job. In a three stage compressor, the air is forced through a total of three chambers. After it passes through the first cylinder, the air is passed through a heat exchanger in order to cool it, which reduces the work needed to compress it in the next stage. The air then moves into the second chamber, followed by another round of cooling, and finally the third stage of compression. This arrangement, in addition to making the compressor more efficient, also improves its overall reliability, and reduces the maintenance required to keep it in good working order.
